Today, our blog has the honor of interviewing Ms. Kenya Powell, owner of the new boutique. They have opted to UNVEIL the boutique's name during the grand opening and unveiling. The boutique's grand opening is THIS SATURDAY, January 18, 2014, 2-6pm. The boutique is located at 19146 James Couzens, Detroit, MI 48235, inside Xtravagant.
Kenya Powell is 30 years old. She LOVES To Read, Mingle & Mingle some more. I am the President Of
LADY Like Itineraries (INTRIGUING Minds) which is a book club and social
network. She also has a little experience in the fashion world, with three fashion shows under her belt & have another on the way in the spring.
Kenya has experience in the education field, as well. Starting this boutique is a Blessing & she is so grateful for the opportunity. She has an amazing business partner, Sheena Thomas, who is like family! Sheena is their custom designer. Their boutique will be open six days & on Sundays, by request only. If you are in the Detroit area feel free to stop in and shop with us anytime. Kenya assures that you wont be disappointed.

I have known Kenya for quite a few years and this is such a blessing for her to be able to open her own business. As a grown woman, she has been through more than her fair share of life's ups and downs and has ALWAYS come out shiny and polished like a new penny! Congrats, my fave!

First off, congratulations on opening your boutique! What
inspired you to go after owning your own boutique?
I would like to supply clothing for teenage young ladies and
women. We will provide a variety of clothing from sizes small to 3X. Women of
all shapes and sizes should be able to look HOT at an affordable cost. Our
clothing will be reasonably priced and there will be customized options
available.
What kind of people will enjoy shopping at your store? What
type of clothing will your store specialize in and is it affordable?
Our boutique will stand out from others because we will
provide custom clothing, sale limited items, provide superb customer service and
we will ALWAYS value our customers because without them there would be no us.
What people in your life encouraged you in this endeavor?
Who is all involved with this process?
There are numerous people who have encouraged me along the
way however, Latonya Sherar, who is the owner of Jazzi Couture, has really
encouraged and helped me. Fatimah Pratt, the owner of Xtravagant, has helped
me tremendously with getting started and giving me advice from experience. My
niece, Sheena, because she is my partner, stylist, shoulder and everything
else I need to assist me when things aren’t all smiles. There are many people
involved in this process simply too many to even attempt to name.
Have any people discouraged you or offered any helpful
criticism for you that you found helpful in this journey?
I can honestly say no one has tried to discourage me. The
support I have been receiving has been huge and I’m so very grateful for all
the love.
Do you have any advice for somebody starting their own
business or company?
My advice for someone opening or having a desire to open a
business is to GO FOR IT! No matter the circumstances you must have a support
system and keep faith. Doing something new is a task and succeeding is an
even harder task but it will all be worth it in the long run.
